Troop 398, chartered by the Hanover Park Lions club, has brought the beliefs and values of Scouting to the youth of Hanover Park and Schaumburg for over 40 years. Our troop is a Scout lead program with guidance from our adult leaders. While the concept may seem at odds with itself, we guide our Scouts to be able to work as a team; but also independently. We try to camp at least once a month where they practice their cooking skills and work on different projects to help each other each their rank advancements.

Be prepared is not something we take lightly. We learn first aid and make sure that all the Scouts get first aid and CPR certified.  We showed off some of our first aid skills at the Hanover Park Kids At Hope Fair by caring for our “wounded” volunteer by splinting his broken arm, wrapping his sprained ankle, and constructing a make-shift stretcher with items that we had on hand to carry him to help.

Leave no trace is something that we teach everyone involved with our Troop.  This conservation initiative is something we take very seriously.  We do not leave a trace of our being at a camp site, we leave the sites as clean or cleaner than we found it.  We also work on area conservation projects like helping to clean up Busse Woods, and volunteering at recycling events.

To help other people at all times is another facet of the Scout Oath.  In an era where basic traits like kindness and compassion are in small supply, we strive to instill in our youth the valor in being kind and helping others.  We do this by serving our community in whatever way we can.  Whether it is helping the Lions Club with their food drives or volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, Troop 398 is there to lend a hand.

The Troop has membership from numerous schools in the area including Anne Fox School, Einstein School, Jane Adams Junior High School, Hoffman Estates High School, Schaumburg High School and some home schooled youth. The Troop is located within the Pathfinder District of the Pathway to Adventure Council, Boy Scouts of America. Troop meetings are held at Adams Jr high in Schaumburg.
